Having adequate oral hygiene is a very important part of our health, since thanks to it we can fulfill essential functions, such as chewing food and having better digestion. Also, the smile is part of our identity, so how do we keep that fresh and healthy smile that we crave?
Dento , the new brand that integrates the portfolio of “Brands by your side”, Alicorp’s recent initiative to provide Peruvian families with high quality products at very affordable prices, reminds you of the 3 most important keys provided by the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), which will help you to have optimal oral health.
- Use a suitable toothpaste and toothbrush. The PAHO recommends using a fluoride toothpaste (1,000 to 1,500 parts per million), as it helps strengthen teeth and protect them from cavities. As for the toothbrush, the organization indicates that it is appropriate to use one that has protective edges on the head, bristles with rounded, regular or soft tips, and non-slip handles to facilitate washing. For its part, the ADA reminds you that it is important that you change your brush every 3 or 4 months at the most since it is usual for the bristles to wear out due to use.
- Brush with the correct technique. According to specialists from both organizations, it is important to rotate the brush handle so that the bristles can sweep the entire surface of the tooth, starting from the edge of the gum, both outside and inside, in addition to cleaning the tongue during washing. Also, the PAHO recommends doing this process for at least 2 minutes and at least 2 times a day.
- Complement your brushing with mouthwash and dental floss. A fluoride-based mouthwash will help strengthen your tooth enamel against cavities and repair any white spots that may appear. The PAHO also indicates that dental floss should be used at least once a day, always passing it between the teeth, but without exerting too much pressure on the gum tissue, as this could cause an injury.
Finally, according to WHO figures, around 3.5 billion people are affected by oral diseases, with tooth decay being one of the most frequent health disorders. Therefore, being consistent with a good oral health routine will help you have clean teeth, healthy gums and prevent related diseases. Also remember to periodically visit your dentist for a complete check-up.
